Striking Nurses

During a national pandemic, nurses and frontline workers have put themselves and their families at risk to protect and heal our communities. Yet, as we see a second round of spikes the nurses at Backus Hospital were forced to go on strike because of the unfair labor practices at Backus Hospital. The nurses at Backus make significantly lower than comparable hospitals and were asking for fair compensation. In addition, they were asking for better protective equipment and staffing ratios to improve patient safety. The owners of Backus Hospital, Hartford Healthcare, decided that the way they treat heroes is to deny them these basic requests. It's been heartening to see many in our region rally to support these frontline heroes as they fight for better safety protections and fair wages as they put their lives on the lines.
